Fats are very important part of
any healthy balanced diet - but it has to be the right type of fat.
There are basically two types of fats; saturated fates and unsaturated
fats. Saturated fats are found in dairy products, animal fats,
cakes, biscuits, 'hardened' margarine and hydrogenated oils such as in
vegetable fats like coconut oil and palm oil. These tend to
raise blood cholesterol levels that can lead to heart disease,
arteriosclerosis, certain forms of cancer and diabetes.
Unsaturated fats - polyunsaturated and monounsaturated - like olive
and canola oils and oily fish tend to reduce blood cholesterol and
triglyceride levels. |
