Abba Recipe

(Country Mustard - Srilankan Recipes)

Ingredients:

½ cup tiny black or brown mustard seed

vinegar

1 clove garlic, optional

1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh ginger

2 teaspoons sugar

salt to taste

 

Method:

Put mustard seed into a glass or earthenware bowl and pour over enough vinegar to cover.  Use white or malt vinegar, or red wine vinegar.  Herbed vinegar can be used for extra flavor.  Let stand.  Next day, put the mustard and vinegar into container of electric blender together with garlic and ginger and blend on high speed until seeds are pulverized.  Add sugar and salt to taste.  Store in a clean, dry jar.
